Transportation Engineering Research Centre (TRC)

The Transportation Engineering Research Centre (TRC) at College of Engineering Trivandrum, was established in March 2012 by the Government of Kerala. TRC aims to bridge the gap between academic research and practical applications in the field of transportation engineering. With a strong focus on applied research, technology transfer, and collaboration with industry, TRC works towards ensuring the development of better roads and transportation networks for Kerala.

At TRC, we combine academic excellence with hands-on expertise to address the challenges faced by the transportation sector. Our dedicated faculty members, specializing in various areas of transportation engineering, along with our state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities, enable us to undertake high-quality research. We also offer a two-year M.Tech program in Traffic and Transportation Engineering, fostering the next generation of experts in this field.

Our centre collaborates with national and state agencies on various research projects, all with the common goal of improving road safety, infrastructure quality, and transportation efficiency. By fostering close connections with practicing engineers and industry professionals, TRC contributes significantly to the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of Kerala's road networks.

We welcome you to explore our research, programs, and initiatives, and join us in our mission to create sustainable and efficient transportation systems for the state.

Major Activities of TRC

  1. Carry out high quality research in the following areas
    - Pavement engineering
    - Traffic and transportation engineering
    - Transportation planning and economics
  2. Conduct training programs or workshops/symposium to disseminate the knowledge to other organizations
  3. Provide training for faculty and students to identify recent trends and advancement in the relevant field.
  4. Modernize the labs and purchase of codes and other reference materials

MoU with Bentley Systems and Inauguration of Center of Infrastructure Innovation

As part of the Transportation Engineering Research Centre (TRC) initiative , the College of Engineering Trivandrum has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bentley Systems . This collaboration aims to strengthen industry-academia interaction and enhance capacity building in the field of infrastructure engineering.

Under this initiative, a Center of Infrastructure Innovation was inaugurated by Bentley Systems at the Civil Engineering Computer Laboratory, CET . As part of the center's establishment, Bentley Systems has provided access to the latest versions of MicroStation, OpenRoads, and OpenFlows software , enabling students and faculty to gain hands-on experience with advanced industry-standard tools used in planning, design, and analysis of infrastructure projects.

The center is expected to support academic instruction, research, training programs, and skill development , thereby improving student employability and fostering innovation in civil and transportation engineering domains.
