2. Visiting Faculty Programme by Dr. Vivek Tandon, Professor in civil engineering at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP)

Dr. Vivek Tandon, a distinguished professor in civil engineering at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), delivered two insightful technical talks at the College of Engineering Trivandrum on December 7, 2023. The first session, organized by the Transportation Engineering Research Centre (TRC), focused on sustainability and life cycle assessment, highlighting the importance of environmentally friendly practices in infrastructure development. Dr. Tandon's comprehensive overview covered topics such as emission impact categories, greenhouse gases, and global warming potential, providing valuable knowledge for sustainable transportation infrastructure design.

The second session, hosted by the Department of Civil Engineering, explored the evaluation of flooding potential in transportation infrastructure. Dr. Tandon's expertise in hydrology shed light on data collection methods, hazard ranking, and hydraulic modeling techniques, ultimately recommending further research to ensure the resilience of critical infrastructure against extreme weather events. Both sessions generated significant interest and engagement from participants, sparking discussions and paving the way for future collaboration in sustainable and resilient infrastructure development.
